FIRST UP,\u00a0John Brodowski’s<\/a> Curio Cabinet<\/a><\/em> is hot off the presses. Collecting most of John’s self-published work and introducing a\u00a0new\u00a0story,\u00a0Curio Cabinet<\/em> will be formally released at this weekend\u2019s\u00a0MoCCA<\/a> fest. If you\u2019re like: \u201cCurio<\/em> what?\u201d then we\u2019ll say if you like horror movies, heavy metal, the bible, animals or D&D,Curio Cabinet’s<\/em> stories and lush artwork will send you packing into the dark and magical woods.\u00a0To quote the lovely\u00a0Rob Clough<\/a> (The Comics Journal<\/a><\/em>): \u201cIt\u2019s the very definition of \u2018cult comic.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n To celebrate the release of\u00a0Curio Cabinet<\/em>, Secret Acres and\u00a0Desert\u00a0Island<\/a> will be hosting a release party in Brooklyn tonight, April 9th at 7pm. Expect beer and books and you will be pleased. We have some awesome embossed pencils that will come free with initial purchases of the book. More on the soiree can be found\u00a0here<\/a>.<\/p>\n If you drop by the table at the MoCCA festival, you’ll have a chance to get your books signed by\u00a0Eamon Espey<\/a>,\u00a0Ken Dahl<\/a>,\u00a0Samuel C. Gaskin<\/a> and John Brodowski<\/a>. We’ll have a bona fide table schedule available at the festival so you can plan your MoCCA accordingly. For once.<\/p>\n Speaking of Ken Dahl, serious congratulations are in order. Ken’s 2009 herpes-themed graphic novel,\u00a0Monsters<\/a><\/em>, published by yours truly, has been nominated for an\u00a0Eisner Award<\/a>! The award winners will be announced in July at San Diego\u2019s own\u00a0CCI<\/a>. We\u2019d go, but they\u2019re so big and we\u2019re so small!<\/p>\n Later in the year we’ll be releasing\u00a0Edie Fake’s<\/a> Gaylord Phoenix<\/em> and\u00a0Joseph Lambert’s<\/a> collection,\u00a0I Will Bite You!<\/em> We hope to have both books ready for the\u00a0Small Press Expo<\/a> in Bethesda, MD in late September.<\/p>\n Before all that happens, Secret Acres will be making a special appearance at the\u00a0Stumptown Comics Fest<\/a> on April 24th and 25th in Portland, Oregon. Superstar\u00a0Theo Ellsworth<\/a> will be joining us at the table, signing books and selling mini-comics. We are psyched to see all of our west coast comics compadres, including Dylan Williams,\u00a0Minty Lewis<\/a> and\u00a0Damien Jay<\/a>. You will want to be there after you take a look at the Stumptown poster that Theo designed\u00a0here<\/a>. See.<\/p>\n Speaking of Dylan Williams and\u00a0Sparkplug Comic Books<\/a>, you should check out this fantastic\u00a0interview<\/a> he did recently. Dylan is a Man on a Mission, as they say in France.<\/p>\n Ken Dahl was recently on the road slinging comics with\u00a0MK Reed<\/a> and\u00a0Liz Baillie<\/a>. You should also head over to\u00a0Gabby’s Playhouse<\/a> where Ken has been aggregating all of the amazing praise that\u00a0Monsters<\/em> has received, because he\u2019s so humble and will do the work for you.<\/p>\n Even more congrats are due to Theo and Eamon, who are both tying the knot later this year (with their respective fiancees, Heather and Lisa \u2013 not each other, though there would be nothing wrong with that).
